Amagami SS Plus Episodes 11 – 12

Ah, we arrive at my personal favorite pairing in the world of Amagami – Junichi Tachibana and Haruka Morishima-Senpai.  A brief summary of how things ended can be summed up in one sentence.

Amagami SS Episode 4 Ending for Haruka Morishima Anime

Junichi! Haruka! Amagami SS Episode 4

…They ended up getting married after a ten year time-skip.

Amagami SS Plus Episode 11

In Amagami SS Plus Episodes 11 – 12, the story revolves around what happened before this time-skip. Makes you wonder right? Here we find ourselves in episode 11,  Haruka saw an article about a church and her grandparents got married in that same church. She informs Hibiki that she has a sister from England who is about to get married. Of course, she’s a little envious of her and desires the same thing to the point that she wants Junichi to do these embarassing “roleplays” with Hibiki as the doctor, priest, etc.

Amagami SS Plus Episode 11 Wedding Roleplay

Wedding Roleplay for Junichi and Morishima Senpai

Enter Jessica, the sister from England. A blonde version of Haruka. More straightforward as expected from a foreigner. This definitely suits my taste.

Jessica Morishima

Jessica "Sexy" Morishima on the attack.

The reason she came to Japan is to take Haruka back to England to pursue her studies there. Of course, Junichi finds out about this and this is where the plot of this Amagami arc revolves on. Haruka feels a bit sad, avoiding Junichi, realizing that she will leave him behind. Can Junichi convince Haruka to stay and not leave for England?  Episode 11 ends with Junichi inviting Haruka over his house…alone.  Rawr.

Amagami SS Plus Episode 12

Despite the invitation and the overnight stay, it’s still not enough to change Haruka’s mind to leave. It doesn’t help that Jessica makes up stories about Haruka – like the guys she has in England or not letting him talk to her over the phone. It was all in preparation for this really cool moment.

Declaration of Love

Declaration of Love. Yeah, he manned up in front of everyone.

and he gets the girl. Well played, fine sir. Well played. The next episode will be an all-girls episode. No Junichi to the delight of some people.

If you want to read about my other reviews on Amagami SS +, here you go. Thanks for viewing. Can’t wait for Fate Zero Season 2. – Verne

Amagami SS Plus Episodes 5 – 6

Amagami SS Plus Episodes 5 – 6

Talked about the game and the first 2 episodes here. Amagami SS Plus Episodes 1 – 2. Decided to skip on the Rihoko arc since the childhood sweetheart theme, really wasn’t something that tickles my fancy. For this review, I’m not going to talk about the side characters and instead focus on the main characters themselves. In my opinion, the swimmer had a great manga – Amagami SS : Love Goes On and somewhat a so-so anime adaptation.

Ai and Junichi

Amagami SS: Ai and Junichi's Hot Springs Moment

Short Recap. Last we saw the arc ending previously where Junichi and Ai was on a hot spring somewhere in the mountains. For who knows what happened there,
I’m leaving that to your imagination.

Swim Team

Ai Nanasaki : The New Swim Team Captain

Fast forward to The Present. Ai ended up being the captain of the swimming club, taking over Hibiki Tsukahara.

Sleeping on the Belly

Sleeping on the belly makes all the pain go away.

Junichi is occupied studying for university admission and eventually ends up being kidnapped in a van and forced to study in cram school due to his low grades. Because of that, Ai is also busy and somewhat lonely that they can’t meet on Christmas Eve. This was the drama the two episodes revolved around on.

Sae and Miya

Meat Buns! Sae and Miya O.O

Our hero, Junichi, somewhat manages to get away for a day and give her an expensive coat. He also assures her that once he passes for the uni, she gets keys to his apartment. The story ends where we see both of them at the apartment watching fireworks, indicating closure for this arc.

I’m not sure if I’m going to blog on Sae or Kaoru but I will definitely be blogging about Morishima-senpai. Woof!

Update: Morishima Arc – It’s here ~

Amagami SS Plus Episodes 1 – 2

Amagami

Amagami SS

Ok, this is going to be a change of pace in terms of my choice for anime viewing. Rom-com? Naah. To those who are not familiar, Amagami SS is an anime adaptation of the game “Amagami” – which is a Japanese dating simulation game developed by Enterbrain for the Playstation 2 console.

The Girls of Amagami SS

The Girls of Amagami SS. From L - R : Kaoru, Sae, Ayatsuji, Ai, Haruka, and Rihoko.

You play as Junichi. Typical high school student. So, there’s six girls with six different paths. You can choose which girl would you like to win over. You can get different type of endings – a good ending, bad ending. and a best ending – depending on the girl you pick. Here’s a sample of its gameplay for the PS2. You can probably ignore the Japanese narrator.

And you wonder why people play this? Text ftl, a few buttons pressed, and a save file. Wow. Might as well put it to good use. Learn some Japanese!

Now, Amagami SS Plus is actual the sequel to Amagami SS. Amagami SS Plus has only 12 episodes and it allots 2 episodes per character compared to Amagami SS’s 26 episode format which gives each girl 4 episodes each plus 2 special episodes for bonus characters.

Episodes 1 – 2 are for Ayatsuji Tsukasa’s character – ah yes, the split personality class president. For a certain timeline, I believe this takes place after Christmas Eve. Not going too far in the future wherein they have a daughter. Forgot the spoilers. My bad. lol. I’m not going to go too much in depth but I’ll do a short summary.

In a nutshell, Ayatsuji runs for school president. Votes Junichi (Leading male. You get to play as him in the game) as her vice-president. Enter a third wheel – a first in the tv series, Kurosawa.  She’s a girl whose out to prove her superiority over Ayatsuji by attempting to steal Junichi. Ayatsuji wins presidency and they end up together. Cameo by other girls and of course, the backrub!

Ayatsuji's Backrub

Ayatsuji's Backrub in Junichi's Imagination

Despite the gravure photoshoot, the moral support behind Ayatsuji’s presidency and the thoughtful dog rescuing, it eventually led to this…

A Sappy, Fantasy-turn-Reality Moment with Junichi and Ayatsuji

So if you haven’t watched the episodes yet, I’d go watch the first two.

Beelzebub Chapter 138

The Showdown Between Oga and Jabberwock, Beelzebub Chapter 138

Oga versus Jabberwock

Each week I wait for this manga to come out. This is one of the mangas I personally have read in one sitting.  Not much thinking required – pure shounen mixed with comedy.

I will summarize this chapter up through bullets.

  • Short Fight – This was expected. Beelzebub is the type of manga that never tends to draw out battles. What I didn’t expect is that the other battles halted as well like Aoi and Agiel. It felt like this arc was being rushed for some reason. It’s like you have all this buildup for all the characters and your conclusion was like “oh, ok – the evil boss lost so there’s no point in us fighting anyone anymore.”
  • In your typical Shounen manga, there usually are “powerups” that the main character gets out of nowhere – whether they simply evolve or unleash a new skill based on the strength of their opponent. The explanation is that the usage of black techs matures Beel and overusing these techs would result into something fatal for Oga.
  • “That is the heavy fist of a man who has something on his shoulders.”  – loved that quote.
  • Everything was just a game to Lord En and it feels like nothing grave ever happened.
Read the chapter if you got time.  I’d say it’s an average chapter IMO. Taken from mangareader.net

Ideals on Fate / Zero Episode 11

The Grail Dialogue in Fate Zero Episode 11

Yep. The Grail Dialogue happened over a Garden Swirlfest

Taken from Fate / Zero Episode 11 – Entitled “The Grail Dialogue,” I was suprised that the dialogues throughout were quite stimulating that I had to blog about it.

Each person has his own ideals/beliefs but is there one that is truly right?

The point of discussion which interests me – was about what each Servant’s reasons (Saber, Archer, and Rider) were for obtaining the Holy Grail and what should a king be like.

“Should kings be selfish tyrants (Rider)  or should they be self-sacrificing beings for their country’s prosperity (Saber)?”

“What is a real king?”

“Should the king be alone?”

Find the answers while watching the show. Got the link below. Some of the lines I had to pause and note lol…

Saber:

“I wish for my homeland’s salvation  (to change the past). I will avert Britain’s destruction. For the country that gave me my blade to which I offered my life, was destroyed”.

“A king is a martyr is to his ideals.”

“Of what worth is a king that is powerless to save its people? A just rule, with just laws, those are the duties of a king.”

Rider:

“The king does not make offerings. The nation offers themselves to the king.”

“Is a king (supposed to be) a slave towards what is right?”

“I shall not grieve. And I shall not weep (for all who have died in battle for me). But I shall not regret. Let alone undo it. Such an act would make a mockery of all who fought with me.”

and the lines that sold Rider’s point of view to me personally.

“You said you would martyr yourself for your ideals. In life, you must have been a pure saint. A proud and noble figure, certainly. But who can truly admire the martyr’s thorny path? Who dreams of such an ending?”

“A king…The king must be greedier than any other. He must laugh more loudly and rage for longer. He must exemplify the extreme of all things, good and evil. That is why his retainers envy and adore him. And to be the flames of aspiration, to be as the King is, can burn within his people.”

“The righteousness and ideals that you bore may have indeed saved you once. However, what became of the people you saved and left them by themselves? You may have saved your people, but you never led them. You never showed them what a true king should be. You abandoned them when they lost their way. Then alone and untroubled. You followed your own pretty ideals. Thus, you are not a true king.”

At first, I might have rooted for Saber’s ideals of righteousness. You can tell somehow while I’m writing this that I might be biased in favor of Rider (Isakandar) here. I liked how he implied that this is how a true leader leads his men.

Of course, if you thought that there were only two choices, a third choice pops out of nowhere.

Archer’s line towards Saber – “Follow the path that you believe in. Your pain and trouble… as you bear a burden of kingship, which is too much of weight for any. It is a splendid to gaze on.”  –  made me clap in my mind. A very nice answer. Triumph through hardship.

So which among the three views of the Servants would you agree on?

Highly recommend that you watch this episode and heck, the whole series.

Sidenote:  This has got to be the show of the year and IMO, better than Fate / Stay Night. I leave you with the ED song as I lay to rest.
